CHCCS/SCDHM Graphics Interface Early Career Researcher Award

The Award

The CHCCS/SCDHM, Graphics Interface Early Career Researcher Award, aims to recognize, support and encourage outstanding early career faculty members in the fields related to the Graphics Interface conference, which covers all aspects of graphics, human-computer interaction, and visualization. The award is given annually to up to two individuals and presented at the annual Graphics Interface conference.

Recipients

Criteria

To be eligible, the applicant must:

  • hold a current tenure-track faculty position (pre‑tenure or tenured) at a Canadian university:
  • have begun their first tenure-track appointment within the past five years and held that position for at least one year:
    • Eligible start dates: the five calendar years immediately prior to the award year, with adjustments for eligible research delays (e.g., illness, maternity, parental leave).
    • Delays are counted as twice their duration when extending the five‑year start date window.
    • Professional leaves (e.g., sabbatical, administrative, training) are not eligible for adjustment credit.
    • Hold any citizenship or visa status in Canada.

Nomination process

This is a self‑nomination award. Applicants should prepare a single PDF file containing the following documents in the order indicated:

  • Research Statement (max 1 page): Provide an overview of your research contributions and their impact in areas relevant to the Graphics Interface conference.
  • Service and Leadership Statement (max 0.5 pages): Describe notable leadership and service roles within the research community.
  • Mentorship & Training Summary (max 0.5 pages): Summarize your mentorship activities, impacts on student supervision, training, and research development. Contributions to social impact including actions supporting equity, diversity, and inclusion (both within and beyond scholarly outputs) should be highlighted.
  • CV (no page limit)

There are no font or margin requirements. Documents should be clearly written, professionally formatted, and easy to read. No reference letters are required.

Selection Criteria

The selection committee will evaluate each nomination based on the quality and impact of research contributions, community service and leadership, and effectiveness and impact of mentorship and training. Assessment will focus on demonstrated contributions and their relevance to the Graphics Interface community.
