CHCCS/SCDHM Graphics Interface Early Career Researcher Award

The Award

The CHCCS/SCDHM, Graphics Interface Early Career Researcher Award, aims to recognize, support and encourage outstanding early career faculty members in the fields related to the Graphics Interface conference, which covers all aspects of graphics, human-computer interaction, and visualization. The award is given annually to up to two individuals and presented at the annual Graphics Interface conference.

This year, we will award the Early Career Researcher for both 2023 and 2024.

Recipients

Criteria

To be eligible, the researcher must:

  • currently hold a tenure-track faculty position at a Canadian university,
  • have started their first tenure-track position less than five years ago (for the 2024 award) or less than six years ago (for the 2023 award), minus the length of eligible delays in research (e.g., illness, maternity, parental):
    • Eligible leaves are credited at twice the amount of time lost.
    • Professional leaves (e.g., training, sabbatical, administrative) are not credited.
    • May have any citizenship or visa status in Canada.

Self Nomination

Nominees should submit their own nomination package using this form as a single .pdf file containing, in order:

  • Research Statement (1 page maximum), and
  • CV (no page limit).

The one-page research statement should describe the nominee’s significant scientific work and immediate research plans in the topic areas covered by the Graphics Interface conference. The statement should address research and career impact, including student supervision, social benefits and contributions toward equity, diversity and inclusion, including in non-scholarly outputs. There are no font or margin requirements. Please write legible and reasonable documents.

Selection Criteria

The selection committee will evaluate each nomination based on the quality of the nominee’s recent work and the quality of the proposed research, both measured in terms of impact within the scope of topics covered by Graphics Interface.
